RBA Topic – Propaganda’s Affect on Media: What does it mean to be an American?

In my RBA, I want to research the extent to which government issued propaganda influences various forms of media, particularly commercial advertising and news. I specifically want to look at how these media, intentionally or not, echoed the sentiments expressed in propaganda and thus perpetuated them. By drawing comparisons with Cold War propaganda and media, I want to analyze how modern-day, post 9/11 media reflects government ideals, and ultimately how that shapes our definition of what it means to be an American.

Here is my mind map:

  1. This topic is super interesting and relevant! Your mind map is very clear, and all the connections you make are strong and thoughtful. In your section on advertisements, it could be interesting to talk about advertisements of toys and how they reflect American values. In high school, I researched the differences in advertisement of toys during the Cold War and current day and how they reflect different gender distinctions and American values at the time, and it was super fascinating! That could be a useful example to include in your RBA. Good luck with your paper!
